Friday Favorites
Posted on Friday, March 22, 2019
Happy Friday everyone! I haven't done a Friday Favorites post in foreverrr! Happy to be back in my blogging grove. Here are 5 quick things that are my favorite this week :) I hope you guys have a great weekend!!
1. My sweet sidekick(s)
This pup follows me everywhere. Everyone in the family is benefiting from me working part time from home - but I think this pup is liking it best! She just goes from room to room sleeping every chance she gets.
Between Molly being connected to me at all times, little guy growing rapidly in my belly and MJ knowing her days as a single child are dwindling.. my lap is ALWAYS full. A few nights ago I was soaking it all up while watching AJ work on nursery things.
2. March Madness
When we moved to North Carolina, I totally didn't think about how big of a basketball state it is. But holllyyy cow, March Madness around here is like November/December in Athens. Between Duke and UNC, the whole state is lit up with anticipation. I think between AJ and I, we have four bracket challenges we are participating in. We have been invited to March Madness parties and everyone's yards is decorated in some shade of blue. Nothing will ever compare to UGA football, but I think I can get behind this energy :)
3. Zucchini Boats
I have struggled a LOT with food aversions.. I don't want meat hardly ever - if I do, I want chicken nuggets or taco seasoned ground turkey. So I asked my bestie over at The Healthy Peaches to help me get more protein in my diet. We came up with different ways to use taco meat, incorporating more beans, eating beef or bone broth and yogurt! And TMI.. my digestion is wayyy better these days!
When I posted this pic on insta, I received several requests for the recipe. Here is a hodgepodge of a few recipes I mixed together to get what I was searching for:
1.. Cook 1 pound of ground turkey in taco seasoning and set aside.
2. Split zucchini and scoop out insides..then use the leftover remnants of taco goodness to saute a half onion and zucchini insides (salt + pepper).
4. Mix meat, onion, zucchini, 1 can of corn and 1 can of black beans together.
(This makes SO much that I put half in the zucchini boats and save the other half for the next night to serve over rice.)
5. Scoop goodness into boats, top with Mexican cheese and cook in the oven at 350 for 25 minutes.
6. Garnish with hot sauce, sour cream, and cilantro!
4. Maternity Style
In Charlotte it has been cold wet and rainy for approximately 65 days, ha! I have been wearing the same leggings and three shirts over and over and over. So when it hit 60 last week, I jumped at the opportunity to wear something new!!
These outfits were from our weekend in Charlottesville. Surprisingly, I snagged BOTH of these dresses at Goodwill for $4 each. I haaaate spending money on maternity clothes and I just couldn't pass this deal up. They are both sleeveless, so I paired a cardigan/jacket with them for the cooler weather.. They are both super comfy and I will be wearing them weekly until July!
5. Grace Ann Designs
I saved my absolute favorite for last.. I'm opening up a small shop! I have been researching for weeks to find a creative outlet that I can do with my spare time. I thought about monogramming, party planning, even opening a dry bar! But I finally settled on creating handmade jewelry from home. It is very little overhead and doesn't take a huge initial investment. I have been playing around with different textures, materials, and price points in supplies, and I finally have nailed down "my style". I am SO excited about this new venture and I cannot wait to show you guys my designs!
I am starting out with statement earrings only. I LOVE fun, girly statement earrings, but have a hard time finding ones that are light enough for my ears. I have pretty stretched out earlobes that I am super conscious about, so I also prefer to only wear post earrings opposed to hook. So a majority of my designs with be in this form. Next week I will be doing a giveaway over on my instagram and will be officially launching early/mid April. It would mean the world to me for you to like, share, and follow Grace Ann Designs.
Happy Friday, guys!! Still playing a bit of catch up on the blog.. I've got TEN Friday Favorites to get us back on track :)
1. Simpler Wines
Our community pool doesn't allow glass containers, so I have been looking for some yummy drinks to be able to throw in a cooler. My FAVORITE I have tried thus far is the peach Simpler Wines from Trader Joes. Not too sweet and has a nice fizz!
2. Maddie/Molly Relationship
Maddie Jane and Molly have kiiiinda had a love/hate relationship over the past two years. But now they are becoming best friends and it is the sweetest! Maddie Jane gets so excited to see her every morning, is constantly loving on her and playing fetch, and every afternoon asks me to take her picture with Molly, ha!
3. This face mask.
I have a big basket of face masks, samples, travel size things (usually from Sephora points) to try out now and then.. I snagged his one the other night and guess what the main ingredient was?? KAOLIN! For anyone who doesn't know.. my home town is the kaolin capitol of the world! I happen to be the 2008 Kaolin Queen, hahaha
4. Bike time in jammies
The day after the fourth I did not have to go into until noon. So we took the morning super slow in our jammies and had some special time before I took MJ to school.
5. Neighborhood pool
Last Saturday we had the neighborhood pool all to ourselves! I guess everyone was on vacation?? We ALL jumped off the diving board a million times! And I proved to AJ and MJ I can still do a back flip!
6. New air fryer
I have been looking into air fryers for forever and after discussing it with E, she had one sent to our house for her visit! We have tried french fries, chicken nuggets, zucchini and corn so far. The fries were my favorite and corn least favorite. It's pretty much the same concept as putting something in our oven, but doesn't require pre-heating and cooks MUCH faster. (And way healthier than frying things with oil!)
7. Family date
On Sunday we went on a family date to Catch Air and then had Mexican for lunch. Maddie Jane was in complete amazement that something so great even existed! It was such a great place to escape the heat and burn off all her energy!
Also.. why does she look five years old!?!
8. A good summer read
I pretty much exclusively read books on my kindle. But when we were in route to Hawaii, I picked up THIS paperback (and didn't get around to reading it!) But I read the entire thing last weekend! There is just something so good about an easy romance novel, with pool water soaked pages, on a hot summer day...
9. Framily date
On Tuesday night, we met Bev and Ben at Kaleidoscope for a little framily dinner date. We try to get nights with those guys in at least once a month!
Their selfie after taking our picture, ha! Love these two so stinkin much.
10. Honey's Here!
Honey has been here all week and it has been SO nice! She has helped me get so many projects done, ran a million errands, cooked delicious food. She is going to a friends this weekend, but I am excited to have her around for another week! I lucked out in the mother in law department - so thankful for her!! (And of course I've taken zero pictures this week of her.. I'll do better next week!!)
1. THIS GIRL
You guys... we have turned the corner on the terrible twos and we see the light at the end of the tunnel. She is not perfect by any means... but we have less crying, and tantrums, and lashing out. I think it's the development of more words to tells us how she feels. We have had some of the sweetest moments lately and I am so so thankful!
2. BEST FRIEND TIME
Kell and I have a rule to never go more than two weeks without seeing each other. And with all her work travel and personal travel (she jetted off to Italy for two weeks - poor girl, right!?) and then I was in Chicago..We went like a month!!! But last night we downed a bottle of wine and made homemade pizza and it was the BEST.
3. UPGRADED BREAKFAST
I started adding radishes to my avocado toast and holy YUM. That little crunch is just so dang good. Crazy how starting your day with such an amazing breakfast can really set the bar for a solid day.
4. BACKYARD RENO
Backyard reno phase two is done!!! This picture is from minutes after they got done and there is still dust everywhere, but we are so in love!!! Extending the patio and adding the walkway has improved it so insanely much. I can't even imagine how pleased we will be once we get the patio roof!! Bring on all the summer nights out there!
5. I PASSED!!!!!!
I saved the best for last. After months and months of studying, I took the SHRM certification test today and passed!!!! It was so insanely hard and exhausting, but I am so dang proud!! Going to add those little initials to my LinkedIn profile right now!!
I hope you guys have an amazing weekend! I am gearing up my belly and liver for 12 hours of food and drink at ATL Food and Wine Festival with Bev!!!!!

1. THIS GUY. And it FINALLY being the END!
The way Maddie Jane is looking at her Daddy in this picture.. that's exactly how I feel right now. Today is the end of a verrryyyy long journey - today AJ defends his PhD dissertation! He has worked his tail off the past five years, has made so many sacrifices, and all of his hard work is finally paying off. We are so excited to live life sans academia!!! We are SO proud of you babe!!! GOOD LUCK!
2. Baby bird eggs!
I took this picture this weekend of baby bird eggs in our fern and was sooo excited to include it in my Friday Favorites... and now the eggs are gone! We are so sad that we do not get to see these little babes come to life! But man.. something so cool about seeing life up close like that.
3. Anthro right now.
Y'all.. if I had a million dollars, my first stop would seriously be Anthropologie. Their home section right now is out of this world. The latte bowls, the hand towels, the outside dinnerware. I die over it all!
4. Samantha Strong
I have received so many messages about Samantha since writing the post back HERE. She started her chemo last week and hasn't skipped a beat. She is at work with a smile on her face every single day. She even started a blog that you can read HERE!
5. Last night.
Eeek, last night was so much fun. Maddie Jane and I went with Beverly to Brookhaven's Sip and Stroll. All the stores had 10-20% off, drinks, snacks.. such a perfect girl's night! (And y'all.. hearing her little voice talk about "Beberby" is THE sweetest!)
We had "passports" to get stamped at each store and then we entered them to win Atlanta Food & Wine tickets. (Fingers crossed!) The weather was kinda yuck.. and we may have had a major meltdown over having to leave the toy store. But so much fun nonetheless!
6. Muffins with Mom
Ugh this picture is blurry, but it's the best I could get this morning. She was so excited about her outfit (that Mom and I bought when she was born, ha!) and taking her teachers their Teacher Appreciation Week gifts, and Muffins with Mom at school!
This girl is pure JOY. And I am so lucky to be her Mama! Looking forward to getting AJ back tomorrow and a nice relaxing weekend at home with my people. Happy early Mother's Day!!
Hey guys! Happy Friday! It has been a loooonggg week. Ready for some r&r this weekend! Today I am linking up with Erika, Narci and Andrea for Friday favorites.
This smiley girl! She has definitely tested us this week. We have had knock down drag outs over clothes, bed time, snacks.. you name it, she has had a VERY strong opinion about it. Thankful when we see those sweet moments, we know our parenting is paying off..
Have I mentioned she's sassy? These Minnie Mouse heels are on pretty much anytime we are at home. And she needs all the accessories, and a purse or backpack too. She is definitely my child.. and totally paying my back for everything I put my mother through.
We started putting out the pine straw in our backyard. Now looking at this picture, I def think I need to extend it out another foot. MAN so much labor has gone into this yard.. I'm ready to enjoy it!
Our next HUGE project is this area.. We are thinking about extending the concrete slab, adding a roof/pergola over it with a fan, mounting a TV, doing a fire pit, new patio furniture.. We have a contractor coming out next week for a bid. I've been trying to talk AJ into doing it ourselves, and he is adamantly against it.. maybe the sticker shock of the bid will get him to change his mind :)
Auntie Paige sent Maddie Jane a couple new shirts in the mail! We got several Matilda Jane shorties off e-bay and we are excited to have some tops to match! Unfortunately this weather is being the worst and we had to wear jeans this morning...
Auntie Paige also spoiled Mama and sent me a Crate & Barrel gift card. Isn't she just the sweetest friend ever!?!
Lastly, I am excited to have date night tonight with this hunk! We are going out with a bunch of friends for his, and one of his fraternity brother's, birthdays. (And shout out to Bev's amazing rehearsal dinner photographer for snagging this pic!)

And that's a wrap! AJ has a FIJI alumni supper on Saturday night and I am headed down to Sandersville on Sunday for a baby shower for my precious friend, Cassidy. Hope you guys have a great weekend!

Five on Friday
Posted on Friday, January 26, 2018
Hey y'all! Man oh man this was a looonggg week. I haven't had a full week of work since before Christmas, so this one was tough. I am linking up with some of my favorite Mama Bloggers for Friday Favorites for the first time in forever! Here are 5 quick things that were my favorite this week :)
1. Amanda + Jen
Last night Amanda and I went to hear Jen Hatmaker speak in Roswell. We have both loved her for forever, have read her books, we follow her on social media, etc.. and she did not disappoint! It was a night full of incredible uplifting messages, tied in with some hilarious anecdotes. There was something so insanely powerful about being in a room full with Godly women, laughing at our failures, crying over our babies growing up, and singing praises. And ahhh my heart could just BURST with the fact that I get to see my cousin/best friend weekly. It is SO GOOD for the soul. She's my person.
2. Where is Honey!?
Our Honey (AJ's mom) left for a 112 day cruise on Tuesday. YES you read that right.. 112 days!!! The cruise line our family always goes on, Crystal Cruises, does "world cruises" every year. It has always been on her bucket list, so she committed to doing it this year! (Not quite sure if committed is the right word?? I mean the lady is seeing the world and having room service daily, ha!) We are already missing her so stinkin much! So we have this handy little calendar on our fridge to track her daily.
3. This picture!!
Paige got her wedding pictures back and I am absolutely dying over them! Mark Williams Photography is simply out of this world. I have never seen an event where they didn't completely hit it out of the park. In this pic.. Maddie Jane had decided to climb up a 20 foot embankment (in her white dress and white shoes, no less) and I'm glad the girls captured this sweet moment while I chased after her in 4 inch heels! It's definitely a framer :)
4. This yogurt
Y'all I know this is so random, but this yogurt is GOOD. I have been on a mission to change up my breakfast, so this week I bought literally every kind of greek yogurt at the grocery store. And the verdict is actually one of the cheaper options.. Dannon Oikos! (Specifically the key lime..YUM) So a couple more calories than the light and fit, but still a healthy, tasty snack. And do yourself a favor, and do not try that expensive glass bottle Oui yogurt. Gross.
5. My girl
Don't think it's possible to do a Friday Favorite without featuring my girl. I swear she looks 5 in this picture! She has the best little personality and is so full of life. I could eat her up!! She is getting her first haircut this weekend (EEK!), so I know she is going to look even more grown-y.
We have a pretty low key weekend planned. I have a bajillion errands to run, MJ's haircut, AJ will be working on our backyard, a date night (woo!!!), church, and some time with girlfriends. Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend!!
xoxo
