Quick Trip - Phoenix and LA

Hey! Hi! I am back from my month long unintentional hiatus from blogging. With a toddler, a household to take care of, a part time job, a jewelry business, 578 things on our social calendar and housing a large baby in my womb well... blogging hasn't been very high on the To Do list. But man I love having this little scrapbook of our life, so I am about to knock out SIX posts - I have them scheduled to publish every day from now till Wednesday, so strap in!

Back at the beginning of April, Mom and I flew to Arizona for Ryan's Bar Mitzvah. When I went a few years ago for Hayden's, I had Maddie Jane with me, so I missed a large part of the ceremony. It was so cool to actually get to listen and really soak in Ryan's... he did an AMAZING job. He is so well spoken and didn't miss a beat singing the Hebrew prayers.

After the service, we headed home to set up for the party. Well... a large part of it was already done, but we decorated, organized, and got ready for the 100+ guests that were expected to invade Clint and Denise's backyard.

They used their backyard for Hayden's and it went so well... they decided to do it again! I was in charge of the balloon arch - pretty proud of it!

First time deputing my earrings! Man I have a lot to say and show about my earrings.. but that's a post for another week, ha!

The weather was GREAT! The sky was gorgeous, and everyone had such an amazing time! I miiiight have snuck in around 9pm to go to bed because #pregnant and #ihada6amflight.

Love this Mama of  mine so much! We don't get to travel often just the two of us, but it sure does my soul good when we do. And holy cow we look like twins in this pic!

Best part of the party - def the photo booth!!
Everyone in the house was sleeping when I dipped out and grabbed an Uber to the airport. I caught the earliest flight to LA to see my bestie Kelsey! I figured I was THIS close to the west coast, it would be a shame to not just hop on over to her!

She grabbed me from the airport and we set out to do all things LA. First up acai bowls!

And avocado toast. And of course getting that perfect pic for the gram.

After breakfast, we headed up to Malibu for a hike neither Kelsey nor I had done. We use to hike in LA all.the.time. and it's def one of the things I miss most about the west coast.

Kelsey thankfully picked a pretty easy hike with only one large incline. It was SO exhilarating doing a 4 mile hike at 7 months pregnant. I felt like a total bad ass, not gonna lie.

There are so many mountains and valleys that you can get to from LA in under 20 minutes and it totally feel like you are 100s of miles from the city.

After that hike, we headed over to the Century City Mall right by my old apartment. They were doing renovations as we were leaving and of course now it is AMAZING. Seriously, the best mall I have ever been in. I had this gigantic sandwich from Richard Blais' restaurant The Crack Shack.

That afternoon we vegged out on the couch, binge watched The Act, and ordered sushi for dinner. It was sooooo good to spend some quality time with my California bestie. Sometimes you make friends that will stay with you a lifetime.. Kelsey is one of those :)

Meanwhile back at home, Honey and AJ held down the fort with Maddie Jane's social calendar and my to do list :) They wrapped up the soccer season, went on an Easter egg hunt, strung lights on the back deck, put mulch in the flower beds, and planted flowers in all my planters! Isn't it so nice to have a mother in law to come in to help with your kiddo AND get all that done!? She's a gem I tell ya.

And these two surprised me at the airport! I missed them so stinkin much and I was so happy to be back home!! See you back here tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, and the next :)

In AJ Date Night Gigi Maddie Jane MJ Fashion Travel

Parents' Weekend in VA.. MJ's weekend with Gigi

This past weekend we had a parents' only weekend to Charlottesville, Virginia. When we saw Mumford and Sons were touring near us we knew we had to go.. we considered the Charleston show, but it was middle of the week, so we bought tickets to the one in Virginia for a weekend getaway! We left after lunch on Friday for the 4ish hour drive through some gorgeous mountains and vineyards.

We checked into the hotel, and had a yummy Italian dinner and walked around the outdoor mall by out hotel. Andddd maybe stopped at Kilwin's for dessert :) It was so low key and just what this Mama needed.

The next morning I told AJ he had to pick out breakfast since I had made the dinner reservations. Well.. he picked the BEST meal of the whole weekend. We walked the two smiles to Moose's by the Creek. Super old joint, linoleum floors, taxidermy everywhere, no dish over $9..And it was COMPLETE HEAVEN. I'm still dreaming about that french toast on good ole Sunbeam white bread. Thank goodness we had to walk the 2 miles back to the hotel to counterbalance a tiny bit of this feast.

We shopped a little.. AJ found a barber for a much needed haircut, we took a glorious two hour nap.. def skipped lunch after that mound of a breakfast we had.. and got ready for date night number two!

We had dinner at The Local - recommended by two different friends. It did not disappoint. The building has been everything from a mechanic, a coffee shop, a photography studio.. and has now been completely opened up for a two story restaurant. Great vibe and would recommend if you are in Charlottesville!

AJ's local beer and duck.. I had some soup and salad that wasn't worth a pic, but very yummy.. ha!

We had a parents only weekend last month, this month and have another one in May! We joke that Mom is making up for all the time we were in California and couldn't help us out. We are def getting our time in now before baby number 2. We can't thank Mom (and CC) enough for being so willing to always spend time with our girl!!

Charlottesville is super cute - reminds me so much of Athens (prob bc UVA is there), but with more mountains. TONS of breweries and wineries too that I can't wait to try when we go back in September for my bestie Kelsey's wedding. (She and her fiance both went to UVA.)

And then concert time! The UVA basketball stadium is an amazing venue.. usually in sports arenas you really compromise on sound quality, but not here! I am already thinking who we can see there next!

We saw Mumford at Wakarusa wayyyyy back in 2011 - and they are even better now. They jam SO hard, cycle through 20+ instruments, and interact with the crowd so much. SUCH a good concert!!

We got stuck in the parking lot.. and of course had to get a snack.. and didn't get to bed until after midnight. Suuuuper late for this 24 week pregnant mama, but it was all SO worth it! Love, love, love weekends getting one on one time with my hubby.. and paired with amazing music just makes it that much better!!

Meanwhile back at home... Maddie and Gigi made unicorn cookies..

MJ showed Gigi her soccer skills at practice on Saturday morning..

And of course they went shopping! At the first store, Maddie Jane ONLY wanted to buy baby brother stuff. She picked all these out right by herself. Gigi even said they had to put some stuff back, ha!

And don't worry... Fancy Nancy didn't get jipped. Because she was SO sweet getting stuff for baby brother, Gigi rewarded her with this insane haul! Again Maddie Jane picked out everything! Fingers crossed this helps some of our clothes arguments, ha!

OBSESSED with twirly dresses.

And then she wore THIS get up for their dinner date on the McDonalds playground...

And the weekend was topped off with ice cream of course!

We woke up suuuuuper early on Sunday morning to get back in time to meet these two for brunch! We had to take mom to my favorite place to get crab cakes benedict :)

Safe to say.. they both had the best weekend and we did too :) So thankful for you Gigi and all you do for our kiddos!!

European Christmas Markets Part II

I'm back for my second (and final) Europe post! After Slovakia, we woke up in Austria! We had four stops in this little country. Of course I started my morning with breakfast in bed again, ha!

It was so different being on a crystal river boat instead of an ocean ship. Everything was so much smaller and so you were inevitably up close and personal with a lot of the workings of the boat.

The small village of Melk was my favorite stop of the trip! We did not have a tour planned.. we just strolled along.

This abby was so unexpected and absolutely breathtaking.

AJ and I got such a kick out of this Chinese restaurant... Wok In.. get in? hahaha

The Christmas Markets seemed so much more special in these little villages than the ones in the big cities.. just oozing with charm.

That night back on the boat, E was recognized as the cruiser with the most Crystal Cruises -- she will have to correct me here, but I think it's 70 something??

She's a celeb! Ha but seriously, she is going to kill me for even mentioning it.

The next day we were in Linz. We did a little walking tour..

That ended in a Linzer Torte baking class!

This stuff smelled ahhhhmazing. And wasn't too hard to make either!

While we were waiting on our torte to bake, we were served more sweets! haha

And we got certificates as official Linzer Torte bakers!

After the class we walked around a bit more as the sun started to set.

Pictures can never capture the beauty of churches/cathedrals. I was in awe -- something so serene being in an almost empty church around Christmas time.

We strolled through a Christmas Market as we made our way back to the boat. It was a pretty great day!

The next day.. we were in Krems! Another super quaint town that I adored.

The blue skies were absolutely gorgeous.. but don't let that fool you. It was still FREEZING.

We did a walking tour that had a stop at a chocolatier.

His presentation was fascinating - so cool seeing ALL the work that goes into those gigantic chocolate bunnies.

We veered off from the group and did our own thing after this. Another breathtaking cathedral..

And a little bit of shopping..

And back to the boat!

The sun setting as we were about to head toward our last stop.. Vienna!

That night at dinner -- I was trying to suck in my baby bump. And ended up just looking ridiculous. Whatever..

In Vienna, we just took a bus to town to look at the Christmas Markets. We stayed in Vienna for three nights on our honeymoon backpacking, so we felt like we had already seen the high points.

We wanted to get an authentic meal before heading back to the boat and I found somewhere close to the markets with amazing reviews.

It was down these stairs - AJ thought I was out of my mind when I was directing us, ha!

But it turned out to be an amazing find and we did have a very authentic Austrian meal!

We tried to take an uber back to our boat.. and let's say our German isn't very great and we ended up in a deserted parking lot. We had no idea how to explain to ANOTHER uber drive where to pick us up/take us ... so we started walking. Man oh man I was SOOO cold and SOOOO mad. One of those things that you look back and laugh at, but those 2.5 miles were pure misery.

That night we had dinner at a tapas place that is only open a few night of the cruise. Unfortunately, a lot of it wasn't pregnant lady friendly (not like I had much of an appetite anyway) but AJ and E loved it! And I must admit, it was pretty! haha

And the next morning we were up bright and early for a flight to Paris then back to Atlanta. Of course with a little stop in Laduree in the Paris airport for macarons.

This trip was definitely different for me. I'm normally one to have every minute of every day planed. Packing in as much seeing and doing as possible, because who knows if/when you will be back. But I was struggggling - so nauseated and so tired every single day. I'd say we probably spent 40% of the trip sight seeing and 60% of the trip napping, at the spa, or reading.. (I read 4 incredible books in 8 days!)

Part of me felt really bad. Like I wasn't making the most of being in Europe. But the other part of me was so thankful for the time away.. With no responsibilities and truly resting so I could make it through the rest of the first trimester with our little guy. Of course I missed Maddie Jane like CRAZY - this was the longest time we have ever left her. But she was in the great hands of my step sister Ashton part of the time and my mom the rest.

So anywho.. that's a long way of saying we had the best time! We are so thankful for E including us in her travels around the world. We are so lucky and I don't want to ever take that for granted. Cheers to our next big adventure.. post baby! ha
