In Maddie Jane Month by Month

SIX MONTHS!

HOW IN THE WORLD has an entire half a year gone by?? I swear it was yesterday I was lying in bed complaining about swollen feet or awful indigestion. And here we are.. an insane 182 days since that warm day in November. You are our world, little girl. I know you inside and out. Every giggle, every cry, every coo and ah. You are FUN. I mean you light up every room and put a smile on anyone's face you come in contact with. You think everything is funny (especially your Daddy) and that giggle. That giggle is the best noise I have ever heard in my life. And boy oh boy are you independent. No snuggles for Mommy. You only want to roll around and play by yourself - but with your eye on Mommy of course. My little social butterfly.. you talk and talk and talk all day long.  You love big - the smile on your face when you first see us in the morning.. Oh my, I hope you never lose that big love, my sweet baby. We are loving watching you grow Maddie Jane.. but you could cut us some slack and slow down a little, yeah??

EAT
Sweet baby, you LOVE to eat. If you can't tell by those insanely cute rolls on your thighs, you are a food lover. You have a special place in your heart for all things orange - pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and  carrots, and a BIG lover of any fruit. We usually do a fruit and a tiny bottle in the morning (6am), a big bottle at 9am, a veggie and a small bottle at noon, a big bottle at 3pm, a veggie/fruit/meat at 6pm and a big bottle at bedtime (8pm). We will wake you up once more around 10/11pm and "top you off" .. this always maybe guarantees us a full nights sleep! You aren't the biggest fan of formula now that you have been introduced to so many fruits and veggies and really only crave that bottle when you're sleepy. We are introducing more and more food with baby-led weaning. You aren't a huge fan of things with texture, but we are always letting you try.. More about the introduction of foods these days and not about the calories since you are getting the majority from formula.

SLEEP
You are a great sleeper and we are so, so thankful!! I would say you sleep through the night about 70% of the time. If you do wake up, it's around 3am, you need a quick diaper change and a small bottle and you are right back to sleep. We were really worried about stopping the swaddle, but you transitioned like a champ. The picture above is your signature pose - you sleep like this every single night. You wake up around 6am, take a nap 8-9am, take a nap 1-3pm, a small snooze around 5pm, and go to bed at 8pm. Of course every day isn't this scheduled (especially with all our traveling lately..) but you stick to something of this sort pretty much every day. You will occasionally fall asleep in my arms if you are super sleepy, but you want to stretch out in your bed alone. (SO thankful  you are a crib sleeper, but it does break Mama's heart a little bit that you don't want snuggles..)

DEVELOPMENT
SO MUCH has happened this month. You are changing left and right. The biggest difference is your strength in your core - all the sudden one day you just started sitting up! You can't stay very long, and usually revert to more of the tripod stance, but you're getting there! You roll and roll and roll and only sometimes get stuck on that belly. You do the "airplane" and grasp so hard like you want to crawl so badly. I bet you master that skill in a couple weeks at the beach with all your cousins' encouragement! You grasp at everything, can turn it around from side to side and then it will immediately go in that mouth! You can stand up for a long time if we hold your hands and love looking out around you. You really notice people and know who Mommy and Daddy are. You love using your little voice and can mimic some noises that we make. We keep thinking you will get a tooth any day now with the insane amount of drool - you go through 2-3 shirts and 2-3 bibs a day!!

LOVE/HATE
You LOVE sticking your tongue out and blowing bubbles. You still LOVE bath time .. it's your favorite time of day and HATE getting out. You LOVE your jumparoo and could stay in it forever. You LOVE putting anything in your mouth, especially your refrigerated teething rings. And you LOVE putting those stinky, smelly toes in your mouth!! You LOVE your puppy Molly and even the endless kisses she gives you. You LOVE looking at yourself in the mirror during diaper changes and HATE that Mama is trying so hard to wrestle you to be still. You LOVE DisneyJr and we watch Little Einsteins every morning while getting ready for work and daycare. You LOVE Ms. Jenny at daycare and are picking up so much from the other kids. As you can tell you just LOVE everything. You are such a content, happy baby. You are such a sweet, sweet girl and I am so incredibly blessed to be your Mommy!!

In Menu Monday Weekends What's Up Wednesday

What's Up Wednesday

The last Wednesday of every month I link up with Mel at The Larson LingoShay at Mix and Match Family, and Sheaffer at Pinterest Told Me To. These posts are always so long and take me forever to do, but I sure do love looking back on them later!

 1. What we're eating this week...
Tuesday: Chili Mac (thank the Lord for freezer meals!)
Wednesday: Skirt Steak w/Pesto and Roasted Potatoes
Thursday: Hogs in a Hammock
Friday: Breakfast for Dinner
Saturday: Burgers and Baked Beans

2. What I'm reminiscing about...
Our wedding! I can't believe it has been three years since our wedding!! We celebrated pretty low key with a meal at home in between all the hoopla in our lives right now. But AJ made it super special with a tasting menu he created and let me select what I wanted for each course.

"Caprese Nachos" -- tiny pieces of tasted baguette with tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and balsamic reduction.

Lobster tagliatelle. YUM. YUM. YUM.

3. What I'm loving...
A.I.M. (Ares in Motion) is our summer volunteer initiative at work. Today we did crafts for the Painted Turtle - a camp for children with long term/life altering diseases.

This camp allows kids to be around others with similar conditions and gives them the opportunity to have normal lives. There are no limits at camp - they can swim, ride horses, fish.. whatever their heart desires. A special team of doctors and nurses are on staff to ensure their medical needs are met while they are immersed in a wonderful life outside the hospital.

When they leave camp they get a turtle pillow, a blanket and a CD full of pictures from their time at camp. Today Ares created those pillows, blankets, and CD cases. It was so much fun being a tiny part of these kids' summer.

4. What we've been up to...
Crazy town traveling. You can see our post from SSI here.

5. What I'm dreading...
This girl crawling!! 1. She is growing WAY TOO FAST and 2. I don't know if I am ready to chase this nugget around! and 3. My house isn't baby proofed yet! But man oh man is she trying her hardest to get moving!!

6. What I'm working on...
We are starting Baby Led Weaning this weekend. We are really excited to try out this method of baby feeding. Maddie Jane really lost interest in formula once we started introducing food, so we are hoping to completely get her on the food train just supplemented with formula. She LOVES these pouches and doing it herself (she is SO independent), so I think this approach is really going to click with her.

7. What I'm excited about...
Seeing this girl get married next weekend!! And seeing so many of the Fiji boys and their wives!

8. What I'm watching/reading...
All about the Bachelorette these days.. I'm currently reading Andi's book "It's Not Okay" (It's pretty good - you may not like it if you aren't a Bachelor junkie..)

And I finally watched the first episode of JoJo's season of the Bachelorette. I think those boys brings more drama than the girls! It's going to be a good season!

9. What I'm listening to...
Can't stop singing this song.

10. What I'm wearing...
I have zero pictures of my outfits this month.. who has time to take pictures of their clothes (actually I may have time, but my clothes usually have spit up on them..)

  11. What I'm doing this weekend...
NOTHING! This is our only weekend with nothing to do and we are PUMPED. And I found out this morning we are getting tomorrow off too! Thank the Lord for a 4 day weekend. Mama needs it!! (And there is a LOT of stuff clogging up my DVR that I'm pretty excited to clean off :))

12. What I'm looking forward to next month...
Family beach trip!!!! Beyond excited to spend a week in Edisto with my favorite people doing a whole bunch of eating, card playing, and soaking up the rays in that sleepy beach town.

XOXO,

Kyle+Katie & Maddie's First Beach Trip!

This past weekend we headed to St Simons Island for Kyle and Katie's wedding and Maddie Jane's first beach trip. Thursday night we took the red eye to Miami then a short hop over to Jacksonville. Maddie Jane did AMAZINGLY well. I couldn't be happier with my little flier.

She was a champ and slept a majority of the time. But let me tell ya, Mom and Dad didn't.. It is stressful flying and everyone is asleep and you are just waiting for your kid to start screaming. Red eyes are good in theory, but I don't know if we will take them in the future..

We got to SSI and headed to our beach house. Not only did Mom keep Maddie while we did wedding festivities, she rented a beach house and had it stocked with diapers, wipes and baby food. There is NO way we would be able to do this weekend without her!

Gigi took over Maddie duty and we had some MUCH needed relaxation. Sweetwater ALL weekend long since we can't get it in Cali.

After little girl's nap we were off to the rehearsal dinner.

Not the best picture of us.. #mamatried

Hugo did the honors of sabering the champagne (side note: he just became a level 2 sommelier!) And we had some AMAZING low country boil with crab legs.

The next day Maddie woke up to her twin at the beach! These two look so much alike and have the sweetest love for each other!! Beyond excited Amanda and Barrett were able to come down for his "special weekend"!

So much playing with Barrett will wear a girl out! He does so well with "Maddie Jame"!

Maddie was SO STINKIN cute in her bathing suits!! If I didn't want to eat her up already!! I mean..

The pool water was freezing, so we just splashed on the sides.

After a nap, it was wedding time!! She did SO WELL and let Mama sit through the entire wedding without a peep.

Isn't Katie's handwriting to die for!? She made several of these for the bar menu, order of services, etc.

This took SEVERAL tries (including some mid spit up shots), but we finally managed a semi decent family photo.

Man oh man I sure do love the marsh of South Georgia. How gorgeous was the sunset??

We were there the night they started dating at Bassnectar, and the night they got engaged in Vegas, and were BEYOND happy to be there the night they tied the knot. We sure do love this couple and cannot wait to hopefully live in the same town and do life together!

The next day it was beach time!! This little girl LOVED the water and the sand and really just being outside. She is such a happy, go with the flow baby, and we are so so thankful.

A little naked play time is the way to her heart.

Followed by some naked sleeping..

Sunday night we went to the Half Shell for the BEST oysters - straight from Cumberland Island.

The next morning, we had one last beach trip before packing up the head home.

Love this fam of mine and can't wait to go back to the beach in just two weeks!!

A little scare with our flight being delayed and worry that we would miss our connection (we may have sprinted through DFW..) But this girl handled it like a champ. Spread a blanket out and give her some toys, and she is good to go!!

Another successful round of flights and layovers! She did SO well. I know I keep saying how well she did over and over, but this was a LOT for an (almost!) 6 month old!! We had no idea how she would react with the flights, time difference, being around a bunch of strangers. And we are just beaming with pride with our little girl!

Hope she keeps this up, because we get back on a plane for another wedding in 9 days... (I get tired just typing that!) 3 weddings in 6 weeks is a LOT. It's exhausting and holy cow is it expensive between hotel rooms, flights, luggage charges, boarding Molly, airport parking, tux rentals, dress purchases, but I wouldn't change it for the world. We love and MISS our friends so dang much, and weddings allow us to see a lot of them all together!!

Huge shout out to my mom for making it all possible. Helping with costs and picking us up from airports all over the southeast and coming and keeping Maddie Jane during all this hoopla. WHAT WOULD WE DO WITHOUT YOU!?
