In Maddie Jane Month by Month

NINE MONTHS!

Oh sweet Maddie girl, Mama is writing this half asleep, on her third cup of coffee, because I promised myself I WOULD write this on your exact month birthday every single time. It has been a ROUGH week around here.. 102 fever, ear infections, teething, snotty, sneezing, coughing... we feel like we are back at the newborn stage with lack of sleep, and throw in unending screams, and lots of tears (from me and you), AND I have to go to work unlike maternity leave. And well.. we are a mess. But we see the light at the end of the tunnel! Your fever has gone down and you are on the mend! I will try my best to capture this past month of your life.. The first three weeks flew by in the blink of an eye and this last one seems like an eternity, but here we go!

EAT
You LOVE food. You love food so much, I think you are going to quit taking a bottle all together before your first birthday. We have been giving you some of our dinner (if you are still awake) mixed in with squeeze pouches and baby food. You will try anything and you like most everything. New things this month: spaghetti, cheerios (holy cow, the amount of cheerios you consume!!), tomatoes, chicken, meatballs, potatoes, mac&cheese, donuts (oops!), yogurt and rice. You have reached a point now where if you see me eating something, you grunt until I give you a bite. You pretty much always have some cheerios in hand and Molly constantly follows you around eating the ones you drop! You consistently get 6oz of milk every 3 hours at daycare, but you more or less just snack on bottles at home with food.

SLEEP
It's hard to remember what sleep even is... (I.e. we woke up last night at 11pm, 1am, 2am, 3am, and up for good at 5am!!) But as far as my foggy brain can remember, I think you were only getting up once during the night before this sickness rocked our world. And of course you little stinker, you will save your sleep-through-the-night nights for the weekends when we don't have to go to work the next day :) You have become a rockstar at protesting naps this month.. Sometimes you will throw down once we even walk in your room, because you know it's nap time! After some crying it out and one more rock in the chair, you'll usually wave the white flag. You are still very adamant about sleeping in your crib.. If I even try to sneak you into our bed for a little nap, you jump up and think it's play time! I know it's for the best you are a crib sleeper, but Mama sure wouldn't mind some snuggles :)

DEVELOPMENT
Can you please slow down in this department girl?!? This month you mastered crawling (you are so fast!!) and you are a pro at going from sitting to crawling and back to sitting again. Then all the sudden you started trying to stand up and BAM in like an hour flat you had it figured out and it's all you ever do! Mama has mini heart attacks every stinkin day with how mischievous you are! In the span of about 10 minutes the other day you dumped the humidifier over, pulled the sound machine off the shelf, and tried to climb into the laundry hamper and bumped your head! You are FULL of life and have two speeds - on or off - and no in between! You FINALLY said Mama this month and I was over.the.moon. (You can also say Dada, baba (bottle), hey and bye!) You babble allllll the time and Ms. Jenny says you are the loudest kid at daycare! Ha! You do well with independent play and will entertain yourself with toys and books. You have the BEST belly laugh and you think you are pretty hilarious. You are in size 2 diapers (About to move up as soon as we finish this box!), 9 month pjs, and a variety of 6-9/6-12 month clothes.

LOVE/HATE
As you can tell from this picture you HATE sitting still. You are our on-the-go girl. You LOVE your new found freedom of crawling and LOVE pulling up and pulling things off the shelves. You LOVE your puppy Molly and like to share your food with her, but HATE when she over does it on the kisses. You LOVE your huge book collection and "read" books to us all the time. You LOVE looking at your self in the mirror and you think you are pretty cute :) Sometimes you HATE your car seat.. probably because you can't move and it forces you to fall asleep! You LOVE Mickey Mouse!! If the TV is on, you will look at it every now and then, but if Mickey comes on you squeal in delight and are captivated! You HATE having your diaper changed... again the whole sitting still thing! You LOVE your Mama and Daddy and will lock eyes with us across the room.. and we melt in a big fat puddle.

Maddie Jane, you are our world! You have the sweetest personality and are a true delight. As Ms. Jenny says in her sweet South African accent.. "Oh Maddie Jane, you are so pleasant." Your squinty nose and big toothless grin brings so much JOY to our family. You are so happy. You always have a smile and are constantly giggling (which made this sick week 10x harder!!). Every month I think "Man this is the BEST stage yet" and then you go and prove me wrong every single time. When you looked at me and practically screamed Mama the first time, my heart exploded in a million pieces. You are a nut job - I mean you have more personality than your Daddy and I combined! You are so stinkin silly and are determined to be our class clown. You are so care free and easy going and holy cow so fearless. We love you so much sweet Maddie Jane - don't change a thing!!

Murphy's Ranch Hike

Saturday morning we were up bright and early (per usual...) and headed out on a family hike! We have done several hikes around LA (and way too many at Runyon Canyon) so we have been on the hunt for some new ones.

This was the first time Maddie Jane has gone on a hike (and the first time being in the baby carrier) and she did really well!! She giggled and kicked her feet the entire time.

Murphy's Ranch is an old bunker of a Nazi sympathizer that has been covered in graffiti. Kinda creepy down there all by ourselves, but really really cool to see.

There were a ton of different little paths that led to different areas of the compound, but this is the only area we saw.

Fortunately, this area had some great (but steep) stairs down to it -- the other ares were just dirt and gravel on an insanely steep hill.

Molly girl was LOVING it.

Look at that smile!! California is gorgeous y'all. And we really do try to take advantage of it every chance we get. We have quite the list of places we want to go before moving.

Dad was tired and swapped Maddie over to the back and girl was not having it.

So I took over back on the front side. We miss our family and friends and that sweet southern hospitality more than anything, but it sure feels good to breathe in some ocean air off those Southern California mountains :)

If you squint reallyyyy hard, you can see downtown Santa Monica and the ocean. (This hike is in an area of town called Pacific Palisades.)

LOVE this little family of mine and our weekend adventures. Can't wait to do things like this for years to come with more and more kids :)

Unfortunately, my heels didn't love this hike!! I had really long interview days at work on Thursday and Friday so I had some pretty awful blisters from high heels and then hiking several miles on top of that... no bueno. I'm still nursing these wounds four days later!!

This was one of the many things we have on our LA bucket list before we move.. Here is the complete list so I can keep us on track!!

1. Wayfarer's Chapel
2. Abalone Cove Shoreline Park
3. Catalina Island
4. Big Bear
5. Ronald Reagan Presidential Library
6. Sandstone Peak
7. California Science Center
8. Leo Carillo State Park
9. Los Angeles Rams Game
10. Trail Canyon Falls

Life Lately..

Been a little absent from the blog world lately.. work has been crazy, there is always laundry to do, and dishes to wash, and something to plan.. and then there was the Olympics that I just HAD to watch every night so anywho... I'm back! Check out some snapshots of our life lately..

Maddie Jane playing some video game on the Disney Jr app.. as always, she is her Daddy's child through and through.

We are BIG fans of mashed potatoes around here. Give that girl ALL the carbs. #shegetitfromhermama

Maddie always hangs out in bed with me while I drink my coffee and put on my makeup.. Let's just pretend like she's not chewing on a tube of mascara..

Sweet baby fell asleep on the way to swim class and even snuggled asleep in Daddy's arms while we walked in! (Something she NEVER does! Our girl is not a snuggler and it breaks my heart!)

She heard the kids splashing in the pool, and she immediately popped up and was ready to go!!

Sweet baby LOVES helping Daddy play the guitar. All the heart eye emojis.

On Saturday, we went to the Grand Central Market.. Not exactly stroller friendly, but we loved checking out all the vendors.

After several laps around, we finally decided on tacos and Lost Coast beers.

Daddy had some work to do the other morning, so he brought Maddie her cheerios to enjoy in bed with Mom, That big cheesy smile!! Ah, I could eat her up with a spoon.

Poor girl has her bi-monthly bout with a cold.. so it's been some early nights around here! Kitty pajamas and lovie always make things a little better though, right?

Weekend Wrap Up :: Spaghetti Edition

Friday night we had some crazzyyy plans to go grocery shopping! This girl LOVES the grocery store. She kicks her feet and giggles at every person we walk by!

This girl... Goodness she is a MESS. Her new favorite thing is to close her eyes, scrunch her nose up, and throw her head back. She puts on a good show y'all.. and she KNOWS she is funny!

After Maddie bedtime, AJ and I sat down for "dinner" and a movie .. wine, popcorn and bunch a crunch! A movie I made a grand total of 17 minutes through before falling asleep #momproblems

Saturday we headed downtown to see this really awesome floating art exhibit, only to find it was taken down two days earlier.. UGH. Well the picture looks cool... ha!

We needed to go downtown to get my ring fixed anyway so not a completely wasted trip! And we finally went to eat at Nickel Dinner! We have been trying to make it to this restaurant ever since we visited LA for the first time back in 2012! This girl was a big fan :)

And how stinkin cute is this outfit!?! Kelli and Ms Sadie gave this to Maddie right after I found out I was having a girl! I can't wait to order some more Eleanor Rose :)

Sunday morning this girl was looking super cute and we made it to the 9:01 service early!! Sunday mornings ain't easy y'all! But it sure is worth it :)

Maddie took a GREAT nap on the way home from church and continued it in her crib. Unfortunately, we had to wake her up for swim class. She sure didn't mind! This fish loves.the.water. SO MUCH.

We FaceTime'd Mom and she got to see Maddie splash her Daddy the whole time. She is the star of the class!! (Side note: I totally see how parents get so into Friday Night Football y'all! I mean I was beaming with pride because my 8 month old was the only one that didn't cry during swim class!!!)

These two.. my whole world in a picture!

Sunday afternoon called for a long walk to run errands.Took a movie back, grabbed a real big Starbucks.. This girl snoozed and played the entire time!

Again.. with this face! Crazy girl!!

And last night was Maddie Jane's very first spaghetti night! I could seriously do an entire post on it, I got so many stinkin cute pictures! At first she was apprehensive and wasn't too sure about getting dirty.

But then she dug in and realized it was some pretty good stuff!!

And needless to say.. she is ready for the next spaghetti night!

Immediate sink bath was definitely in order! Love this wiggly, giggly, mischievous girl of ours :)

And she was out before 7pm!!! (Which of course meant she got up at 9pm, midnight, 4am, and was up for the day at 4:45am!!) Mama has had to have a lottttt of coffee today, but holy cow I would go sleep deprived every single night to keep this view :)

Hope your weekend was filled with as many smiles as ours! Happy Monday folks! 4 more days until we get to do it again :)
